Czech for foreigners: communicative approach B2/I ONLINE

The course is conducted online via a videoconferencing tool.

The course is aimed at intermediate students who have studied Czech in our B1/II course or have reached the B1 level in other courses. It is assumed that the candidate has studied the textbook Czech it Up 3 or, for example, the textbook Česky krok za krokem 2 or Čeština pro cizince B1.   

Level B2 in Czech is specific in that learners have already mastered the basic grammar and have a basic vocabulary for communicating about common topics. At B2, less common grammatical structures such as declension of foreign words are covered. 

The grammatical structures covered include, among others, declension of foreign words, singularia and pluralia tantum, dual forms, declension of the numerals “dva, oba” and declension of complex pronoun conjugations (e.g. tento, tamten, kdosi). 

Conversational topics and vocabulary are chosen to enable students to communicate effectively about their family and their hobbies and to distinguish between the use of written and colloquial Czech, to communicate about how a person integrates into society and to describe a person and their characteristics, to discuss the political situation in their country and in Czechia, to talk about and discuss food, lifestyle and health, to describe a work process and to talk about and discuss what they believe in and what they believe in. 

A modern textbook is used with a wealth of reading and listening articles, video, and exercises in the workbook to practise the language. Each unit contains a writing task which can be assigned to the students. 

The course is taught using the communicative approach so that it is practical and interesting for the learners. Course content is presented with the needs of learners from the academia in mind.  The course is taught by an experienced Czech teacher. The use of an intermediary language (English) is, in our experience, no longer necessary at this level.
