The course is aimed at students who have already achieved the A2 level in Czech and wish to progress to B1 at a fairly fast pace. The course runs twice a week, on Monday and Wednesday morning and is taught by two different teachers. The course is thus fairly intensive and is therefore ideal for motivated learners who can attend on both days and invest the time required in attending classes and doing some homework. For those students who wish to study at a slower pace and are not pressed by time, we recommend our once-a-week B1 Czech courses, either face-to-face or online.
The course is not strictly targeted at preparing you for the B1 exam for Czech citizenship, but the activities it presents as well as the grammar and vocabulary are similar to what is needed in the exam and will prepare you well for the B1 level in Czech.
The grammatical part of the syllabus consists mostly of the plural cases (genitive, dative, vocative, locative and the instrumental). Verbal structures taught include the present, past and future tense, the imperative, the passive, and the imperfective and perfective aspects. Moreover, you will learn level-appropriate conjunctions, time expressions and other grammatical features relevant to B1.
The speaking and vocabulary topics include personal description and the description of character of people, shopping, housing, travelling, health, education, holidays and festivals, and the weather.
A modern textbook is used with a wealth of reading and listening articles, video, and exercises in the Workbook to practise the language.
The course runs face-to-face for two semesters at the Department of Language Studies premises and is taught by two qualified Czech teachers, one on Mondays and the other on Wednesdays. Both teachers communicate with each other to ensure a smooth delivery of the lessons and speak English, which may be used as the shared language. Course content is presented with the needs of learners from the academia in mind.
