The course is intended for Pre-Intermediate students who have studied Czech in our A1/II course or have acquired the basics of Czech in other courses. It is assumed that the candidate has studied the textbook Čeština expres 2, or at least 12 lessons from the textbook Česky krok za krokem 1, or completed about 100-140 x 45min lessons in previous courses. Students will partially acquire language competencies of A2 level.
The course runs twice a week, so it is more intensive and you should reach A2 level within a year. It is not a course for the permanent residency exam, but it will prepare you well for the required level.
Grammar topics covered include the nominative, accusative, instrumental singular and adjectives and nouns masculine inanimate, feminine and neuter in the nominative and accusative plural. You will also learn to use local prepositions with different cases and pronouns in the accusative and dative plurals. The comparative forms of adjectives, the aspect of verbs, the future tense and conditional are also taught. In the second semester, all plural cases, the imperative, verb tense, passive voice, pronouns and adverbs are taught.
The communicative topics covered include expressing preferences, countries, nationalities and languages, food, family relationships, describing where I live, describing a person and clothing, telling a story, and polite expressions. In the second semester, the topics of shopping, dealing with the authorities, work, pets, life stages and education, cooking and travelling around the Czech Republic and various events are covered.
The course is taught using the communicative approach so that it is practical and interesting for the learners. Course content is presented with the needs of learners from the academia in mind. The course is taught by a Czech teacher who is able to explain the new language in English.
Textbooks come in English, German, Russian, Polish, Ukrainian and Spanish versions.
