Jolyon Thornton

Well, my name is Jolyon A Thornton (Jolly for short). I have been living in Prague for about sixteen years. Before that, I travelled the world picking up life experiences and languages along the way.

I have been working as a qualified professional ESL instructor and EU teacher trainer full-time for the last sixteen years(approx), teaching at various schools and institutions in Prague and Slovakia. For the last ten years I have been teaching English at the Czech Academy of Sciences(Kabinet studia jazyků, Ústav pro jazyk český AV ČR, v. v. I).

I have had the chance to train lecturers at Comenius University Bratislava (Univerzita Komenského v Bratislave) and a leading business/managerial/educational consultancy (Maxman consultancy) in Slovakia for the last couple of years, specifically assisting with their presentation and language skills.

I write all my own lesson materials for conversation, general, presentation and specific skills-based courses and have for the last fourteen years designed my own curriculum and methodology. At the moment I am focusing on reading skills, trying to introduce or develop efficient ways of understanding and comprehending text quickly and extensively.

I passionately love my job and fully intend to continue teaching for the foreseeable future! Before I became a teacher I worked as a captain of large ocean-going yachts, worked in advertising, the service industries and spent my time travelling.
